Overview This full‑time position with the Office of the Attorney General seeks an attorney for the Civil Litigation Division. The attorney will litigate cases throughout South Dakota involving allegations of false, misleading, and deceptive trade practices, enforce antitrust laws, and participate in state and federal courts, criminal and civil proceedings, and multi‑jurisdictional actions with other law enforcement agencies.
Responsibilities
Litigate civil and criminal cases involving false, misleading, and deceptive trade practices.
Enforce antitrust laws to promote competition and prevent monopolies and anticompetitive practices.
Initiate criminal and civil proceedings in state and federal courts.
Participate in multi‑jurisdictional actions with other state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Communicate effectively with clients and the courts and demonstrate strong legal advocacy skills.
Qualifications
JD degree and licensed to practice law in South Dakota.
Litigation experience of 3 to 5 years preferred but not required.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation, an abuse and neglect screening, and a drug screening.
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
Licenses and Certifications
Applicants must have a JD degree and be licensed to practice law in South Dakota.
Litigation experience of 3 to 5 years is preferred but not required.
Benefits
Salary range: $80,000 to $120,000 annually, depending on experience.
State of South Dakota retirement under Class A retirement (SDRS).
