Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office is seeking both experienced and non-experienced (recruit) candidates for our upcoming training academy. Recruits will be hired at a starting salary of $56,741.

Applicants with prior Police, Sheriff's Office, DCJS Basic Jailor Certification, DOC Officer Certification, and/or Military Security/Patrol experience will be considered for salaries commensurate with experience. Must be at least 20 years of age (or 18 if active military, Reserve, or Guard); possess a high school diploma or GED; be able to show active credentials for prior experience if applicable; possess a valid driver's license; be a U.S. citizen; and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Record must not reflect six or more demerit points within the past 24 months or one major violation of six demerit points within the past 36 months, based on the Virginia DMV point system. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification are required. The position requires working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s CJIS Security Policy, requiring passing a stringent criminal background check. Must be a US citizen or a lawful resident of the US for the past ten consecutive years. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS

: Successful completion of a physical agility test, written test, FBI background check (including driving and criminal history), polygraph exam, panel interview, psychological exam, psychological interview, and medical exam. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited. You will be required to maintain a safe and secure environment at courthouses, jails, courtrooms, campuses, holding areas, and during special events; enforce all felony and misdemeanor laws of Virginia; serve warrants, summonses, subpoenas, civil and other official papers; transport inmates; work under stressful, high-risk conditions; maintain proficiency in firearms, driving, and defensive tactics; investigate and report criminal offenses; assist motorists; provide emergency response resources; serve as a law enforcement resource during emergencies; enforce all state and local ordinances; provide search and rescue assets as needed; perform other duties as required.
