Housing note:
We are pleased to share that the CDOC has collaborated with Fading West Development LLC (FWD) to assist our employees with housing in the Buena Vista Area. They are located in the Farm neighborhood near shopping, restaurants, a fitness center and work. CDOC cannot guarantee housing, and does not operate the housing.
Position Description The Correctional Officer II is accountable for providing lead work/limited supervision responsibilities. Work may include assignment to a single or multiple control center locations (e.g., mail room, meal hall, meal cart movement, canteen, visitation center, medical facility, housing units, etc.). Employees must coordinate activities of others in regulating inmates, civilians, property, security, custody and control functions.
Position maintains the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; duties include, but are not limited to:
Providing lead work guidance and training to assigned positions
Recommending assignments for correctional officers
Providing input into performance plans
Promoting and maintaining a safe and secure environment through observation, communication, adherence to ARs, facility adjustments, and the Code of Penal Discipline
Enforcing statutes, regulations, orders, directives, and procedures
Managing inmate behavior and encouraging accountability through professional communication
Monitoring and controlling access to the facility and restricted areas
Training staff on proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment and chemicals
Enforcing security procedures via work-site searches, inmate counts, contraband control, searches, and transport
Responding to emergencies and preparing required reports
May be required to seize, hold, control, and/or subdue violent or threatening persons
Positions are subject to working additional hours and/or shifts to maintain safety and security.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
High School Diploma or GED, and two (2) years of corrections related experience, law enforcement patrol experience, or military experience. Experience must be clearly described in the "Work Experience" section of your application with each position separated by job classification, duties, and dates. Any work experience less than full time will be prorated. Substitution: College coursework may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. A copy of your college transcript must accompany the application to receive college credit.
Definitions : Corrections related experience is defined as direct service to/with inmates (e.g., correctional officer, teaching, social work, nursing, food service, general maintenance) or work with inmates in program implementation. Possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and a safe driving record
High school diploma or GED
No felony convictions or disqualifying conduct as described in the posting

Successful completion of six-week basic training including Defensive Tactics
Physical ability to perform Defensive Tactics and related activities
Ability to travel and work various shifts; tuberculosis screening is required
