Overview
CTE (FACS) Teacher @ J.H. Rose High School. Under general direction of a principal, provides leadership in an educational environment that nurtures learning for all students. Provides supervision to students in a variety of school settings, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, develops, selects or modifies lesson plans to meet student needs, and maintains records in accordance with NCDPI and PCS policies. Delivers quality standards-based instruction in Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Education; assesses student progress and manages an effective learning environment to maximize achievement. Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and teach a competency-based CTE program in FACS curriculum. Provide guidance to help students address societal issues such as work-and-family balance, health care, care responsibilities, family and community violence and crime, global economics and politics, and technology usage. Demonstrate effective classroom and computer lab management. Assist in coordination of CTE Student Organization activities for local, regional, state and/or national competitions. Participate in field trips to post-secondary institutes, worksites, businesses and hands-on workshops. Assist in development of and participate in activities to promote an innovative business and technology program. Develop community and industry partnerships for students. Core Areas

Required Degree Level: Bachelor’s Examples of Related Degrees: Family and Consumer Sciences; Youth, Family and Community Sciences; Family and Community Services; Counseling; Food Science; Culinary Arts; Dietetics; Food Service Management; Nutrition; Baking & Pastry Required Years of Work Experience for the CTE Restricted route: 2 years within past 5 years Examples of Related Work Experience: interior designer, cafeteria manager, food service manager, extension specialist, adult education, preschool/day care director, social worker, family counselor, financial planner, community service manager, community health educator, fashion/textile designer, chef, restaurant manager, dietitian, nutritionist, catering manager, hospitality manager, culinary, food service, and related roles Semester Hours Required for License: 18 Required Courses: 15 Semester Hours from: Curriculum, Instructional Planning, and Assessments; Instructional Methods; Literacy/Reading Methods; Meeting Special Learning Needs or Introduction to Exceptionalities or Diversity; Classroom Management or Learning Theory or Learning Styles or Motivation or How Adolescents Learn Elective Courses: 3 Semester Hours from: Career and Technical Student Organization Management; Educational/Instructional Technology; Consumer Education or Family Resource Management; Human Development Lifespan; Management of Work-based Learning; Fashion/Textile Design; Food and Nutrition; Interior Design; Foodservice/Hospitality Management; Food Science/Technology Required Induction for the CTE Restricted route: NC DPI sponsored New Teacher Induction Program Notes: For foods/culinary courses, ANSICFP Accredited Food Protection Manager Certification is required prior to teaching.
