Overview
DoD Skillbridge - EHS Specialist - Active Military ONLY at AMPI. The internship provides a learning program designed around training into a potential full-time opportunity in a role similar to the EHS Specialist position. DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Associated Milk Producers, Inc., as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members. AMPI owns seven Midwest-based manufacturing plants and produces a portion of the nation\'s cheese and dairy products. This program describes an opportunity to participate in safety, health and environmental initiatives within AMPI facilities. Responsibilities
Report employee safety, food safety and food quality issues to appropriate personnel. Directly support Environmental, Health and Safety at the facility by training and enforcing safety programs, policies and initiatives. Administer continuous training programs that comply with OSHA regulations and promote safe work behaviors. Manage industrial hygiene programs including medical testing, physicals, respiratory testing, fit testing; monitor contaminants as required by standards. Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste inspections, containerization, labeling, accumulation, shipment for disposal and maintain records. Collect, document and record site EHS monitoring data (e.g., noise, carbon monoxide, heat exposure, storm water samples). Assist with the company drug and alcohol testing program in compliance with federal and state laws. Schedule and conduct site EHS compliance inspections, document records and provide corrective action recommendations and tracking. Apply knowledge of safety programs (Life Safety Code, Forklift Operations, Hoist & Crane Operations, Lifting Equipment, Job Safety Analysis, Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control, Respiratory Protection, PPE Program, Hazard Communication, and other OSHA-required programs). Promote technical safety and occupational health awareness through internal communications and training programs. Support maintenance, plant services and quality assurance to implement engineering controls and food safety while minimizing hazards. Identify and develop corrective actions for potential hazards by auditing facilities, machinery and safety equipment. Manage DOT driver files, random drug screening and DOT documentation in the company\'s electronic system. Utilize and analyze safety and health metrics to identify gaps and reprioritize programs to prevent injuries and risks. Manage workers\' compensation program, monitor claims, conduct investigations, identify corrective actions and ensure follow-up. Ensure compliance with OSHA and environmental reporting and documentation; maintain training records for relevant topics. Support effective two-way communication with all employees; champion safety committees and on-floor safety information. Qualifications
