To participate as part of a decision making team (coaching staff) under the direction of the head coach in planning, coaching, recruiting, administering, and promoting the program within NCAA, Ivy League, ICSA, and institutional standards. The Assistant Coach plays a critical role in achieving the overall goals of the program by providing important recommendations and suggestions to the head coach (regarding competition strategies, line-ups, priority listing of recruits, etc.) as well as offering initiative and independent judgment (e.g., in providing coaching instruction, evaluating and communicating with prospective recruits and their parents, and representing the program to constituents). Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: 6 or more years of experience or combination of education and experience. Skills/Knowledge: Advanced knowledge and understanding of technical and strategic aspects of Sailing. Interpersonal: Strong communication skills and ability to work with a diverse community. Coaching: Ability to teach, lead, motivate and guide student-athletes. Recruiting: Ability to recruit effectively with no athletic grants-in-aid and highly selective admissions standards. Collaboration: Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Experience: Six years playing and/or coaching sailing at the high school or collegiate level. Preferred Qualifications

Sailing experience as a coach or athlete at the intercollegiate level. Responsibilities and Duties

Coaching/Mentoring: Contributes suggestions and recommendations to planning and implementing conditioning, training and coaching programs; independently seeks and develops new training concepts; prepares scouting reports and game plans; during competition, makes recommendations to the head coach regarding adjustments; teaches skills; evaluates performance; fosters academic, personal, and physical welfare of student-athletes. Recruiting: Develops and implements an overall recruiting plan; identifies qualified students and athletes; communicates with prospects; travels to evaluate prospects; organizes campus visits; maintains recruiting records; stays informed of college programs and opportunities to recruit desirable prospects. Administration: Ensures compliance with NCAA, ICSA, and Ivy League rules; assists with budgeting for equipment, travel, and recruiting; plans and reconciles recruiting and travel expenses; coordinates with travel staff; communicates with alumni and supporters; promotes the program; maintains positive relationships with stakeholders; performs other duties as assigned.
