Position Purpose To assist the head coach in planning, coaching, recruiting, administering, and promoting the equestrian program within the NCAA, NCEA, Ivy League, and institutional standards.

Description Essential duties include:

Coaching/Mentoring : Assist the head coach in conducting team practices, training, conditioning, and competitions. Prepare horses and arena for practices. Teach equitation skills to student-athletes. Provide guidance on academic, personal, and physical welfare.

Horsemanship

(20%): Care for horses with meticulous attention to feeding, turnout, first aid, cleaning stalls, and maintaining tack and equipment. Work with the head coach to maintain a fitness plan for each horse.

Recruiting

(20%): Assist the head coach in developing a recruiting plan, identify qualified prospects, communicate by phone, mail, and e‑mail, organize and participate in campus visits, and maintain recruiting records.

Administration

(10%): Comply with NCAA and Ivy League rules, assist in budgeting, expense reconciliation, schedule planning, travel coordination, and alumni/parent/community communication. Promote the program and represent Dartmouth in an exemplary manner. Demonstrate commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness.

Miscellaneous : Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

3–5 years’ experience competing and/or coaching at the NCEA collegiate or 3'6" level.

Positive, team‑oriented attitude.

Ability to work independently.

Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and focus on quality.

Ability to operate vehicles, small equipment, tools, and tractors.

Physical ability to work in all weather, lift/push/pull up to 50 lb, stand/walk for extended periods, bend, kneel, stoop, reach overhead and below. Comfort with exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, animal hair/feathers; willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong knowledge of correct equitation.

Prior experience riding/training horses at the 3'6" level and teaching riding lessons.

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of coaching at the NCEA collegiate or 3'6" level.

Bachelor’s degree in Equine Studies.

Experience loading and hauling horses with a bumper pull and/or gooseneck horse trailer.
