Athens Administrators has an immediate need for a full-time Claims Supervisor I to support public entity and special district accounts for our Property & Casualty department. This role requires residency in California to attend file reviews and meetings. Management that lives within 36 miles of the Concord or Orange offices and has a direct report in the office is required to work in the office once a week; other days may be remote with technical requirements met. The work week is 37.5 hours, Monday through Friday. The Claims Supervisor I will supervise, direct and coordinate activities of an assigned team handling general liability and commercial auto claims within assigned authority limits and in accordance with good faith handling practices. These multi-line claims are typically low exposure and involve property damage and bodily injury, primarily for public entities and special districts. The goal is to deliver quality service to customers while protecting their interests. Primary responsibilities

Oversee a team handling a caseload of general liability and commercial auto claims and new loss assignments in California. Manage a unit of low-level experienced examiners handling property damage and bodily injury auto and general liability claims valued less than $50K for public entities and special districts. Review claim loss reports, assign to appropriate personnel, and serve as a technical resource as needed. Approve claim expenses and settlements within authority; review higher expenses/settlements when necessary. Monitor and adjust reserves as needed within established time frames and best practices. Conduct regular desk reviews of pending/closed files; identify training and development needs. Track quality control, pending/closed files, and reserve activity to communicate unit performance. Keep abreast of legislation and trends to ensure Fair Claims Practices Act compliance and recommend process changes. Participate in special projects and assist with vendor oversight. Assist in hiring, training, motivating, and retaining staff; evaluate performance and develop improvement plans. Collaborate with management to achieve company initiatives and client objectives. Engage with clients to address issues regarding policies, programs, and claims. Ensure consistent and accurate claims coding within the unit. Accountabilities

Supervisory responsibilities

Provide direct supervision to examiners, adjusters, claims assistants, and all liability claims staff. Review and approve direct report’s monthly expense reports. Essential position requirements

The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. This list is not exhaustive. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required; AA/AS or BA/BS preferred but not required. Licenses: CA license required; one license in NY, TX, or FL preferred; additional state licenses may be required within 180 days; maintain licenses and continuing education in all states. 3+ years of experience in a claims lead or supervisor position; low-level auto and GL claims experience for public entities or special districts. Extensive experience (minimum 8 years) in moderate exposure claims, including investigation and resolution of casualty claims. Strong knowledge of public risk, special districts, claims procedures, reporting, and multi-line exposures. Proficiency in determining case value, negotiating settlements, and understanding CA statutes and regulatory requirements. Ability to manage confidential information and lead a team; strong leadership and people management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn additional computer programs; ability to plan, prioritize, and organize workload. Comfort working independently and in a team; strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills and ability to present to groups; ability to build relationships with staff, clients, vendors, and stakeholders.
