Position Summary The Learning Effectiveness Program (LEP) at the University of Denver is hiring LEP Tutors for the 2025-2026 academic year. We require tutors with a strong background in college‑level Business, Engineering/Computer Science, Humanities, Languages, Mathematics, Science, and Social Sciences from entry-level to advanced levels. The position works under the direction of the Tutoring Coordinator and LEP Associate Director. LEP Tutors assist students in building confidence, independence, and academic skills in a one‑on‑one setting, and provide access to resources that help students achieve academic goals. Tutoring at the LEP is NOT teaching, and applicants must understand the difference between teaching and tutoring.

Hours worked are based on student request and needs during Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters with additional hours to be approved or required by the LEP Tutoring Coordinator.

All LEP Tutors fall under the direct supervision of the LEP Tutoring Coordinator. Each tutor is assigned to a Lead Tutor who will act as their tutor mentor during their time as an LEP Tutor.

The Learning Effectiveness Program serves neurodiverse learners. Our students require competent and skilled tutors to assist them in learning academic and some non‑academic skills needed to be successful at DU.

All new tutors must complete the online New Tutor Orientation training as well as the first 5 hours of CRLA Certification on Canvas before the end of the quarter they were hired in (or within a 10‑week timeframe).

The LEP participates in CRLA Level I and Level II Certification. Tutors are expected to participate in the required training activities to maintain LEP tutoring standards and CRLA Level I and II Certification. Activities include, but are not limited to:

Complete the online LEP New Tutor Orientation to understand LEP students’ needs, neurodiversity, and universal design for learning in tutoring sessions.

Work toward earning the necessary 10 hours of CRLA Level I Certification training during the first year as an LEP Tutor.

Attend supplemental trainings and tutor meetings as directed by the Tutoring Coordinator.

Maintain attendance records and complete tutoring assessments; failure to attend meetings or complete tasks may result in removal from the role.

Complete at least 25 hours of tutoring during the academic year to meet CRLA Level I requirements.

Attend one‑on‑one meetings as requested by the Tutoring Coordinator.

Essential Functions

Tutors students effectively in a one‑on‑one environment.

Help students become self‑sufficient, independent learners.

Collaborate with LEP Academic Counselors to meet student learning needs.

Update availability and subjects on Accudemia (tutoring scheduling software).

Complete Tutoring Assessments within 48 hours of each appointment.

Update appointment information (changes, cancellations, etc.) within 24 hours.

Clarify questions so students understand why they had difficulties with the material.

Provide academic tips and tools students can use after graduating from DU.

Encourage critical thinking about course material and explore new ways of learning.

Support growth mindset and accountability before and during tutoring sessions.

Complete all Tutoring Assessments timely and communicate session outcomes clearly.

Communicate with the Tutoring Coordinator/Lead Tutor via phone, email, or in person about questions or concerns regarding LEP tutoring.

Attend required trainings and tutor meetings throughout the academic year.

Keep schedule updated and inform of cancellations to the Tutoring Coordinator, students, and Lead Tutor.

Perform additional tasks as needed by the Tutoring Coordinator.

LEP Tutors must meet LEP and Tutoring Coordinator expectations and may be terminated for policy violations, excessive negative feedback, or inappropriate conduct.

Initial tutor training must be completed by WEEK 10 of the hiring quarter to continue in the role; failure to do so may result in removal and reapplication.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to tutor one‑on‑one and apply Universal Design for Learning with neurodiverse learners.

Ability to support students experiencing anxiety and stress.

Excellent time management and proactive communication skills.

Adapt tutoring behaviors based on LEP needs and best practices.

Required Qualifications

Student Tutors

Must be currently enrolled in DU classes.

Undergraduate students: Sophomore year or higher.

GPA 3.0 or higher in the subject to be tutored; must provide a letter of recommendation from a faculty/staff member in the field.

Provide unofficial transcript to prove grades in courses to be tutored or show equivalent professional experience.

Be willing to adapt tutoring behaviors based on LEP needs.

Be located in the Denver Metro area with in‑person availability.

Initial tutor training on Canvas must be completed and schedule loaded in Accudemia by WEEK 10 of the hiring quarter to continue in the role.

Professional Tutors

LEP Professional Tutors must have at least 1 year of demonstrated experience in the subjects they tutor.

Be willing to adapt tutoring behaviors based on LEP needs.

Provide unofficial transcript or show equivalent professional experience in the subject area.

Be located in the Denver Metro area with in‑person availability.

Initial tutor training on Canvas must be completed and schedule loaded in Accudemia by WEEK 10 of the hiring quarter to continue in the role.

Preferred Qualifications

Student Tutors

– Graduate level student; prior tutoring experience; experience with neurodiverse learners.

Professional Tutors

– Prior tutoring experience; experience with neurodiverse learners.

Work Schedule

This is a part‑time, non‑benefited position. Hours are flexible and paid for actual tutoring time. Tutor hours depend on student appointment requests. Additional paid opportunities include prep time, admin time, and professional development as required by the Tutoring Coordinator. Tutors may not work over 40 hours per week or 80 hours per 2‑week pay period. LEP Tutors may not exceed 1000 hours across all university jobs from January 2026 to December 2026.

All new tutors must complete New Tutor Orientation online training and CRLA Level I online training before beginning tutoring. Initial training must be completed by WEEK 10 of the hiring quarter to continue in the role.

Hourly Range

Student Tutors

— The hourly range is $18.81 to $21.81 (Fall 2025; increase to $19.25 to $22.25 in January 2026). This position is eligible for federal work‑study if eligible; open to non‑work‑study funded students.

Professional Tutors

— The hourly range is $18.81 to $21.81 (Fall 2025; increase to $19.25 to $22.25 in January 2026).
