Position Overview
The Learning Effectiveness Program (LEP) at the University of Denver is hiring LEP Tutors for the 2025-2026 academic year. We seek tutors with a strong background in college-level Business, Engineering/Computer Science, Humanities, Languages, Mathematics, Science, and Social Sciences, from entry-level to advanced levels. Tutors work under the direction of the Tutoring Coordinator and LEP Associate Director to help students build confidence, independence, and academic skills in a one-on-one setting. Tutors provide access to resources to help students achieve academic goals. Tutoring at the LEP is not teaching, and applicants must understand the difference between tutoring and teaching. Hours are based on student requests and needs during Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters, with additional hours approved or required by the LEP Tutoring Coordinator. All LEP Tutors report to the LEP Tutoring Coordinator and are assigned a Lead Tutor as a mentor. The LEP serves neurodiverse learners and requires tutors to be competent and skilled in supporting these students. Essential Functions
Effectively tutor in a one-on-one environment. Help students become self-sufficient, independent learners. Collaborate with LEP Academic Counselors to meet learning needs. Maintain and update availability and subjects in Accudemia (tutoring scheduling software). Complete Tutoring Assessments within 48 hours of each appointment. Update appointment information within 24 hours. Clarify questions and help students understand why they had difficulty with material. Provide academic tips and tools for after graduation from DU. Encourage critical thinking and exploration of new learning methods. Promote a growth mindset and accountability before and during tutoring sessions. Communicate with the Tutoring Coordinator/Lead Tutor about questions or concerns. Attend required trainings and tutor meetings; keep schedules up to date and notify of cancellations. Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Tutoring Coordinator. Meet LEP expectations and may be terminated for policy violations or excessive negative feedback; must complete initial training and load active schedule in Accudemia by the specified timeline. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to tutor students one-on-one and implement Universal Design for Learning principles for neurodiverse learners. Ability to work with students experiencing anxiety and stress. Excellent time management and proactive communication skills. Adapt tutoring behaviors based on best practices and LEP needs. Required Qualifications
Student Tutors Must be currently enrolled in DU classes. Undergraduate students: Sophomore year or higher. 3.0 GPA or higher in the subject to be tutored; provide a letter of recommendation from a faculty/staff member; provide an unofficial transcript or equivalent experience. Be located in the Denver Metro area with in-person availability. Initial Tutor Training on Canvas and active Accudemia scheduling must be completed by Week 10 of the hiring quarter; failure to do so may result in removal. Professional Tutors At least 1 year of demonstrated experience in the subjects to be tutored. Provide an unofficial transcript or demonstrate equivalent professional experience; provide in-person availability in the Denver Metro area. Initial Tutor Training on Canvas and active Accudemia scheduling must be completed by Week 10 of the hiring quarter; failure to do so may result in removal. Preferred Qualifications
Student Tutors Graduate-level student; prior tutoring experience; experience with neurodiverse learners. Professional Tutors Prior tutoring experience; experience with neurodiverse learners. Work Schedule
This is a part-time, non-benefited position with flexible hours. Tutors are paid for actual tutoring time; hours depend on student requests. Other opportunities include prep time, admin time, and professional development activities as required. Maximums: up to 40 hours per week and 80 hours per 2-week pay period; LEP Tutors may not exceed 1000 hours across all university jobs in 2026. All new tutors must complete the New Tutor Orientation and CRLA Level 1 training before tutoring. Initial training and active scheduling in Accudemia must be completed by Week 10 of the hiring quarter to continue in the role. Special Instructions
