Provide the expertise and knowledge that support the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development and institutional and community service. The incumbent will teach a maximum load of 15 contact hours each semester in area(s) of competency and participate as a part-time instructor in the activities of the department, division and college. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching: Demonstrate skill and knowledge in the teaching discipline; develop and use a syllabus for each course or laboratory; plan and use diverse teaching methods and materials; evaluate students and provide timely progress feedback; maintain accurate records and submit reports as requested; review, evaluate and select textbooks and learning materials; deliver courses at varied times/locations as needed; use equipment responsibly; assist with maintenance of instructional laboratories; apply technology to support student learning. Academic Advising: Maintain professional relationships with students and the community; provide access to advising through office hours and other methods; advise on instructional or program-specific issues; present on academic fields, transfer opportunities, work opportunities, clubs and services; collaborate with the Chair on advising activities. Professional Development: Establish annual objectives for professional growth; stay current in the discipline; adopt technologies that support learning; participate in evaluation processes at the self, department and college levels. Institutional and Community Service: Participate in institutional activities (opening week, conference days, commencements); attend discipline committee or program meetings; participate in college/system meetings or committees; adhere to policies and procedures; engage in activities that support accreditation and the college mission; contribute to departmental objectives and budget planning; help articulate courses and programs with other institutions. Qualifications
Education : Minimum of an Associate’s Degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred (a photocopy of the transcript showing degree conferred must accompany the application). Experience : Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at multiple sites; computer literacy; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with diverse populations; strong organizational and planning skills; sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and students with disabilities; ability to inspire and motivate in a learning-centered environment; self-discipline and ability to manage others.
