Pay Range $37,621 – $54,078 per year
Job Classification Correctional Officer I (S)
Responsibilities
Ensure the care, custody, and control of offenders.
Tour assigned areas, including stairs and closed‑circuit monitors.
Identify offenders with behavioral, medical, or other problems so that safety measures may be taken.
Search offenders, visitors, cells, and other areas for weapons and contraband.
Monitor and regulate offender and staff movement.
Maintain and record offender counts, cell assignments, and other pertinent information.
Escort offenders within and outside the institution.
Use and maintain keys and other equipment.
Supervise offender work details.
Qualifications
Active driver’s license.
High School diploma or GED.
Experience requiring one year as a Correctional Officer for level II and two years for level III (Minimum – none, Medium – one year, Close – two years).
Certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Schedule and Shift Full‑time; must be able to work any shift – rotating, fixed, or split shift; days, nights, weekends, holidays; mandatory overtime as required.
Veteran and Preference
Veteran’s Preference – attach DD‑214 Member‑4 Form.
National Guard Preference – attach NGB 23A (RPAS) or DD‑256/NGB 22 for former members.
College credit hours – attach unofficial transcript.
NC Department of Adult Correction certification – refer to link for requirements.
