Correctional Food Service Officer I, II, III (Statewide) About Us NC Department of Adult Correction safeguards and preserves the lives and property of its citizens, overseeing the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. The department includes state prisons, healthcare, facility operations staff, and the division of Community Supervision.

Position Overview This full‑time position offers rotating, fixed, or split shifts, state benefits, and a sign‑on bonus: $7,000 for hires with a start date before July 1 2025 and $3,000 for those starting July 1 2025 or later. Applicants may also qualify for a $1,000 referral bonus.

Salary Range

Correctional Food Service Officer I: $32,639 – $57,117

Officer II: $34,270 – $59,973

Officer III: $35,984 – $62,971

Custody Levels

Officer I – Minimum

Officer II – Medium

Officer III – Close

Responsibilities

Supervise offenders in food preparation and service areas.

Provide training in cooking, baking, and serving.

Maintain food service equipment, inventory, and orders.

Ensure sanitary food handling practices and nutritional planning.

Minimum Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED.

1 year of institutional food preparation and food services for Officer I; 2 years for Officer II; 3 years for Officer III.

Experience in management of commercial food service operations or as a Correctional Officer.

Special Qualifications

Certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Work Schedule

Full‑time with rotating, fixed, or split shifts. Days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required.
