The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies, responsible for safeguarding the lives and property of its citizens and for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating N.C. laws. The department includes State Prisons, the Division of Community Supervision, and other administrative divisions.
Sign‑On Bonus and Benefits At the time of posting the position is eligible for a $3,000 sign‑on bonus, and all hires eligible for a $7,000 sign‑on bonus starting July 1 2025. The position also is eligible for the $1,000 Applicant Referral Bonus.
Salary Range
Correctional Food Service Officer I: $32,639 – $57,117
Correctional Food Service Officer II: $34,270 – $59,973
Correctional Food Service Officer III: $35,984 – $62,971
Job Responsibilities
Supervise offenders in food production and food service operations at a correctional facility.
Oversee food preparation and clean‑up teams, ensuring effective verbal and written communication.
Maintain all food service equipment, menu specifications, sanitary food handling practices, and nutritional values.
Manage inventory levels and timely ordering of food products, cleaning supplies, and other supplies requiring rotation.
Provide training in large‑scale food production and food service activities for institutional and commercial food service environments.
Minimum Education and Experience High school or GED diploma
required for all levels. Experience requirements vary by level.
Officer I – One year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, management of a commercial food service operation, or as a Correctional Officer.
Officer II – Two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, management of a commercial food service operation, or as a Correctional Officer.
Officer III – Three years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, management of a commercial food service operation, or as a Correctional Officer.
All candidates must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Work Schedule and Benefits This is a full‑time position. Employees must be able to work any shift, including rotating, fixed shift, or split shift, days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required. The position offers State Benefits.
