Overview

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for registering Inpatients, Outpatients, and Ancillary patients in the ER, compiling complete and accurate information for hospital records and timely reimbursement. The role involves maintaining effective patient flow and completing the admitting process promptly to facilitate treatment. The employee must foster positive working relationships with coworkers, nurses, physicians, and hospital staff to ensure workflow efficiency. Greeting and assisting customers and visitors professionally, whether in person or by phone, while representing AHMC-ARMC's values is essential. The employee should actively participate in fulfilling the hospital's mission, demonstrate core values, and support organizational goals, including customer service, patient rights, confidentiality, and quality improvement initiatives. Responsibilities

A. Consistently apply infection control policies and practices. 1. Follow standard precautions for self and others during patient care. 2. Practice appropriate disease-specific isolation procedures. 3. Handle and dispose of sharps safely. 4. Maintain sterility of supplies and equipment. B. Meet population/age-specific competencies as per unit addendum. C. Attend department-specific education, training, and meetings. 1. Attend mandatory inservices and training. 2. Submit required paperwork timely. 3. Verify attendance at meetings through signatures or reading minutes. D. Participate in department performance improvement projects. 1. Assist in monitoring performance improvement. 2. Understand and apply the PDSA model. 3. Demonstrate understanding of performance improvement principles. E. Register patients (Inpatients, Outpatients, ER, Ancillary), ensuring accurate data collection for records and reimbursement. 1. Interview patients or use alternative sources to obtain demographic data and signatures. 2. Enter and update patient information accurately in the system. 3. Obtain and verify insurance information, notify of issues, and secure prior authorizations. 4. Understand third-party payor requirements for reimbursement. 5. Inform patients of financial responsibilities and collect payments. 6. Prioritize registration tasks effectively. 7. Complete registration forms. 8. Obtain insurance eligibility, PCP, and other details. 9. For ER, comply with EMTALA requirements. F. Collect patient financial responsibility, including co-pays and deductibles, using verification systems and follow-up when needed. G. Ensure effective patient flow and timely admission process, including introducing oneself, explaining procedures, and adhering to guidelines. H. Use customer service skills to interact professionally with patients and staff, handling upset customers calmly and courteously. I. Comply with hospital attendance and timekeeping policies. J. Achieve a minimum chart audit accuracy of 95%. Qualifications

• Effective communication skills. • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. • Computer literacy and typing skills. • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. • 1-2 years of admitting/registration or healthcare experience preferred. • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, if applicable.
