Patient Access Rep-ED - Registration ED - Per Diem 8 Hours Evening (3:00 PM to 11:30 PM) (Union, Non-Exempt) — Keck Medicine of USC, Hospital, Arcadia, California Position Summary

Under the direction of the Admitting Manager, the Patient Access Representative is responsible for interviewing incoming patients (inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department) to obtain all pertinent data for admission and produce a complete and accurate admission record. This includes medical record information, as well as demographic and financial related information. Is responsible for answering all inquiries related to admissions, collects deposits or payments, interacts with the nursing units and ancillary departments and provides directions to various areas within the hospital. Essential Job Functions and Core Responsibilities

Acknowledging patients or guests and their requests Appearing professional in dress, grooming and hygiene. Assists in the training of new employees. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to the rights of patients and significant others, as identified within the situation. Documents financial arrangements in the patients account notes and notifies the Admitting Manager or Business Office Manager of problem accounts requiring special attention. Exhibits concern, tact and discretion in all working relationships Functions with an awareness of safety issues and reports unsafe issues appropriately Upholds the highest service standards regarding patient care and makes patients\' needs the first priority Must be able to work and be cross trained in Inpatient, Outpatient, Bed Board, and Emergency Room Must be familiar with the hospital layout to direct patients or guests to the proper destination Must be physically able to push a wheelchair Willing to meet staffing needs of the department and available for overtime, holidays, and shift changes Remain informed and compliant with HIPAA, EMTALA, the Fair Debt and Collection Practices Act, Medicare Secondary Payer, and other laws and regulations Remain informed regarding PPO, HMO, Medicare, Medi-Cal and indigent service programs and requirements for timely processing of claims Offer assistance promptly, cordially, and completely Patient care is the utmost priority in all aspects of registration; comfortable with sick patients and able to summon medical assistance when needed; BLS certified annually Monitor patient valuables per hospital policy Perform other duties as assigned and promote unity and teamwork Handle all confidential information appropriately Complete patient electronic medical record and ensure paperwork is sent to the proper destination in a timely fashion Obtain Advance Directive information from inpatient, ER, OPS, and bed patients; ensure accurate data entry Discuss financial responsibility with patients; collect deposits for self-pay patients and co-pays from insured patients as required; arrange financial plans when necessary Speak with patients regarding hospital requirements and complete promissory notes when needed Collect all patient-related information to produce a complete and accurate admission record (e.g., medical record numbers, current data, insurance cards, IDs, signatures, authorization); participate in organization-wide quality improvement activities Understand and obtain signatures for Consent forms, Advance Directives, and other required forms Meet department productivity goals: register a minimum of 20 patients per shift and maintain an account accuracy rate of at least 80%; perform registrations timely (within 20 minutes) Complete and print shift logs in the Emergency Department Complete required courses within the specified timeframes and pass competency tests as required Qualifications

Education : Minimum - High School diploma or equivalent Work Experience : Minimum - 2 years of customer service experience Licenses and Certifications : Must be BLS certified or provide BLS certificate within 30 days of hire; M.A.B. certification required (new hires must obtain within 6 months of hire) Pay Transparency

The hourly salary range for this position is $25.75 - $34.65.
