Business Officer – Biology Department
Position will be available on January 1, 2026. Permanent, full time, exempt.
Position Summary The Business Officer serves the administrative needs of the Biology Department, its faculty, graduate students, and research staff.
Key Responsibilities
Manage financial operations: track faculty and staff salaries, handle temporary salary reserve requests, coordinate graduate stipend and tuition waiver allocations, oversee state fund usage, assemble special budget requests.
Provide general administrative support to the Department Head and Department: lead support for training grants reports, direct speaker preparations and honoraria payments, compose and distribute communications, manage the department head calendar, support the nanosciences initiative.
Supervise and plan office operations: supervise administrative staff training, plan daily responsibilities and leave management, review and certify time sheets and paperwork, collect teaching and research annual budgets, manage budget request process, conduct staff meetings.
Manage human resources issues for the Department: review and monitor all payroll HR paperwork, coordinate EHRA/SHRA searches and compliance, secure credentials, manage promotion and tenure dossiers, prepare research leave and off‑campus assignment forms, inform faculty and staff of policy changes, manage onboarding for new SHRA/EHRA employees.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related area and 2–4 years of experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience working in a university environment.
Experience with office management and supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge of Banner system preferred.
