The Front-End Clerk position provides superior customer service by responding to inquiries, supporting customers throughout their shopping experience (including promoting our customer loyalty plan), processing sales and returns at the cash register, and addressing customer complaints when they arise. The Front-End Clerk is responsible for a variety of tasks to ensure efficient store operation and top customer service. Essential duties include, but are not limited to: Attendance & Punctuality:

Maintain regular, punctual attendance and adhere to scheduled shifts. Arrive on time and leave as scheduled. Work overtime as assigned. Professional Appearance:

Follow company grooming and dress policies, including wearing the uniform, name badge, and any required accessories (hat/apron). Compliance:

Perform duties in accordance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable regulations. Customer Service Excellence:

Provide prompt, courteous service to all customers. Greet customers within 10 feet and engage with them attentively. Practice active listening to understand and meet customer needs. Follow the three-deep rule to maintain checkout flow and call for backup when necessary. Ask customers if they have additional needs during checkout (e.g., "Is that everything for you today?"). Reinforce the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction and ensure staff prioritize service.

Cash Register Operation:

Understand and operate the cash register, following all cash handling procedures. Accurately process payments (cash, credit, checks, EBT, WIC, coupons, etc.), ensuring correct change is provided and counted back properly.

Product Knowledge:

Stay informed about store products, including produce, and their locations. Process customer orders with accuracy and minimal errors. Promote charitable promotions or sales to customers.

Physical Demands:

Regularly lift, pull, and rotate merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs. Stand at the register for extended periods (up to 8 hours).

Product Handling & Organization:

Bag groceries safely and neatly, separating items by type (dry, frozen, refrigerated). Handle damaged or returned products per policy, with attention to perishables. Adhere to shrinkage control practices for Front-End operations. Keep check stands and store environment organized and floors clear of debris and spills.

Safety & Cleanliness:

Follow safety policies and procedures at all times. Keep work areas, registers, and floors clean; handle cleaning chemicals per manufacturer instructions.

Teamwork & Training:

Assist in mentoring and training new cashiers as directed by the Front-End Shift Supervisor. Participate in store meetings to stay informed on performance, policies, and procedures.

Work Ethic & Conduct:

Complete tasks timely, ethically, and professionally. Remain productive during idle times, restocking check lanes as needed. Avoid personal visits during work hours and stay focused on tasks.

Additional Responsibilities:

Perform other duties as assigned by the Front-End Manager or Shift Supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to interact with customers in a friendly, helpful manner. Strong people skills to assist customers and associates in a fast-paced environment. Ability to solve practical problems and handle various variables under stressful circumstances, including customer complaints. This position may require early mornings, late nights, holidays and weekends. Ability to work all assigned schedules and comply with time and attendance policies. Ability to sit, stand for extended periods, walk, bend, climb stairs, and carry loads up to 25 pounds; operate cash registers and related machines. Ability to read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand English. Ability to hear and respond to pages, verbal requests, and phone calls; follow company handbooks, policies, and notices. Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to check pricing and UPC codes. Ability to perform basic math and balance cash receipts; troubleshoot cash discrepancies. Understanding and use of the cash register. Ability to work with fresh, dried, and/or processed products without negative allergic consequences. Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agents; work in varying temperatures. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Ability to react to price and accuracy scanning errors. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work occurs in a climate-controlled retail store environment; occasional exposure to outdoor conditions may occur to accomplish tasks. DISCLAIMER
