Overview Director of Patient Access Services

– Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, and Gulfport Hospital | Full-Time | Days

Position Overview: The Director of Patient Access Services (PAS) manages the daily operations of the PAS Department and implements process improvements to ensure the safe, timely, and accurate processing of patients through a standardized, consistent, efficient, and effective patient access model. The Director ensures scheduling coordination, pre-registration, financial counseling, and registration/admission processes are complete, consistent, and standardized, resulting in smooth patient processing for SRHS admissions and ancillary services to maximize cash flow.

The Director of PAS is responsible for ensuring professional, quality customer service and coordination of services at all times. The Director understands the relationship between revenue cycle needs and the patient care environment, including operational expenses, budget guidelines, system changes, etc.

The Director analyzes alternative paths to specific outcomes, investigates complaints and concerns, and fosters staff versatility while collaborating with clinical personnel and other revenue cycle leaders. The Director leads by example, handling departmental issues professionally and impartially. The Director communicates the meaning of relevant components of the SRHS Corporate Compliance Program to assure understanding and adherence. The Director is committed to addressing issues professionally to determine true causes, propose workable solutions, and take fair and decisive action.

Responsibilities

Manage daily operations of the Patient Access Services Department and implement process improvements for a standardized patient access model.

Ensure scheduling coordination, pre-registration, financial counseling, and registration/admission processes are complete and standardized for all SRHS admissions and ancillary services.

Provide professional, high-quality customer service and coordinate services across the revenue cycle and patient care environment.

Analyze outcomes, investigate complaints, foster staff versatility, and collaborate with clinical personnel and revenue cycle leaders.

Lead by example; address departmental issues professionally and impartially; enforce SRHS Corporate Compliance Program understanding and adherence.

Qualifications and Education

Education:

Bachelor’s degree (business or healthcare administration preferred). Seven (7) years of progressive healthcare experience (in a hospital/health system preferred) may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree. Evidence of continuing education preferred.

License:

N/A

Certifications:

Certified Health Access Manager (CHAM) preferred.

In addition to the above, one or more of the following certifications preferred: Certified Revenue Cycle Executive (CRCE); Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP).

De-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days) and ongoing de-escalation training.

Experience:

With a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of three (3) years of relevant healthcare experience in a hospital/health system preferred. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, seven (7) years of progressive healthcare experience.

System Proficiency:

Proficiency with Epic or comparable system required.

Reports To Executive Director of Revenue Cycle

Supervises Patient Access Services personnel

Special and Physical/Mental Demands

Special Demands:

Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette; proficient computer skills (keyboard, MS Outlook, Word) and office technology knowledge; willingness to travel within the SRHS service area using personal transportation.

Physical Demands:

Moderate activity; sitting with frequent movement, ability to move around facilities, and possible travel within SRHS service area; ability to lift or move objects; exposure to body fluids; repetitive motions of wrists/hands/fingers; normal hearing and vision requirements; ability to work extended periods without undue fatigue; ability to work flexible schedules including weekends as needed.

Mental Demands:

Strong assessment and decision-making abilities; excellent communication, written and verbal skills; emotional stability; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; attention to detail and ability to multi-task; maintain collaborative relationships across SRHS and other organizations.

Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area; employee must provide own transportation.
