Position Overview The Cytotechnologist examines all types of cytology cases microscopically, identifies and marks appropriate cells, and renders the correct diagnosis of each case. This role makes the final diagnosis on gynecologic samples evaluated as negative, including cases of moderate cervicitis. The position also provides preliminary diagnoses on all abnormal gynecologic cases entering sign-out and on all non‑gynecologic cases. The Cytotechnologist works under the general direction of a Pathologist.
Responsibilities
Makes diagnostic decisions on cytologic cases and applies the appropriate criteria to correctly interpret the cases.
In cytopreparation, makes correct decisions about the handling of samples for optimal preparations.
Qualifications
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Certified as a Cytotechnologist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology within 6 months of employment in position.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Current CT (ASCP).
Experience:
One (1) year of clinical work experience as a Cytotechnologist (preferred); no experience required (required).
Education/training REQUIRED:
Bachelor Degree in Health Science (Cytotechnology Track).
Education/training PREFERRED:
Masters Degree in Cytotechnology or Clinical Lab Science from an accredited program.
Independent action(s) required:
Makes diagnostic decisions on cytologic cases; applies the appropriate criteria; handles optimal sample preparations.
Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable):
