Assistant Childcare Director
Assistant to the Director of the UNC Horizons Child Development Center, responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day operations, coordinating teacher schedules, managing childcare center administration, and acting in the Director’s absence.
Location & Hours Chapel Hill, NC • 40 hours per week • Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 6:00 pm (rotating schedule)
Salary $35,498 – $39,520 (Yearly)
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
One year of related childcare experience
Ability to plan activities and manage a child care environment
Physical capability to lift, comfort, and care for children, including diaper changes and meal planning
Preferred Qualifications
Approval to work as a teacher by the NC Division of Child Development and Early Education (meeting four points in education per NCDCDEE handbook)
Experience as a lead teacher in a licensed child care center in NC
Valid driver’s license
Familiarity with the local population served by the center
Required Competencies and Experience
Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities
Lift, comfort, and care for children in a safe environment
Perform cleaning duties and diaper changes promptly
Prepare and schedule meal plans for children
Additional Information May require occasional evening work and overtime. The assistant director will also interview potential candidates for childcare positions, track required childcare program information, and perform various other tasks as assigned. Campus security authority responsibilities are not applicable.
