Position: Wine & Cheese Department Manager
Joseph’s Classic Market is renowned for its Wine & Cheese Department, offering customers the finest selection of premium products. At Joseph’s, we pride ourselves on combining quality products with outstanding service. The Wine & Cheese Department Manager is a vital part of our team, ensuring the success of these specialty departments across all four store locations.
Routine Tasks
Provide exceptional customer service by engaging guests, offering samples, recommending pairings, and sharing product knowledge—especially regarding cheese varieties and wine pairings
Lead the cutting, wrapping, labeling, and merchandising of artisanal and specialty cheeses in accordance with best practices for quality and presentation
Submit accurate orders, manage inventory, and ensure optimal stock levels without excess or waste
Maintain, replenish, and rotate all products and display cases for peak freshness and appearance
Monitor and maintain compliance with Joseph’s standards for cleanliness, food safety, and quality
Analyze department performance to meet sales, margin, payroll, and supply targets
Receive and organize deliveries in prep and storage areas, including walk-in refrigeration units
Operate slicing tools, knives, cheese wires, scales, pallet jacks, and other food service equipment safely
Assist with other tasks as assigned
Qualifications
Experience handling and cutting specialty cheeses in a retail, hospitality, or fine food environment preferred
Knowledge of various cheese types, origins, aging processes, and storage requirements
Strong understanding of food safety regulations and inventory control
Must be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
Strong customer service skills with a friendly and professional demeanor
Understanding of profit and loss management and ability to interpret income statements
Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills
Ability to follow instructions and collaborate with others

A Wine & Cheese Department Manager performs their tasks primarily in the Wine & Cheese department and the prep/backdoor receiving area. Work involves walking, standing for prolonged periods, and lifting products weighing up to 50 pounds. Work also includes frequent interaction with customers and fellow employees.
