This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position Serve as a Geotechnical Engineer conducting site and subsurface investigations and designs for civil and military projects, and evaluating the engineering and chemical characteristics, capabilities, and effects of the substrata conditions on the project design.

Duties

Plan, schedule, and conduct site and subsurface investigations using various combinations of methods.

Prepare plans and write specifications for geotechnical projects and support others by performing foundation and material design analyses.

Perform engineering studies and design analyses for earthworks, foundations, earth and rock-fill dams, levees, channels, and materials, and make a complete evaluation for each specific project.

Review Architect-Engineer (A-E) designs for geotechnical and material conditions.

Perform as Design Team Leader for civil and military works projects relative to the design of geotechnical engineering projects.

Coordinate with other District elements to prepare Design Memoranda, plans and specifications, and project cooperation agreements.

Requirements

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.

The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Incumbent is enrolled in an initial 24-hour training program and a minimum of 8 hours annual refresher training in accordance with OSHA 29CFR 1910.120.e for Hazardous waste operations and emergency response.
