CDOC Journeyman Plumber Supervisor CSLTS I (Denver)
Overview: This position is a Correctional Support Licensed Trades Supervisor I (CSLTS I) and serves as a Journeyman Plumber Supervisor for the Denver Correctional Complex. Primary responsibilities include ensuring the safety and security of the public, staff and inmates; supervising an inmate work crew; and ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant completion of all preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of plumbing systems for the facility.
Responsibilities
Safety and Security: maintain facility and work-site safety; train and guide inmates in the proper use of controlled items; enforce security procedures; monitor environment and inmate behavior; respond to emergencies and complete required reporting.
Supervision: provide supervisory or lead duties for inmate workers; set work standards; train staff and inmates in tools, equipment and procedures; emphasize safe construction practices and PPE use; uphold professional and ethical standards.
Inmate Supervision: participate in hiring and placement of inmates on work crews; train inmates in plumbing operations; monitor progress, inspect work, and ensure timely completion; manage inmate evaluations, hours and pay, schedules, tasks, and grievances according to policy; promote community reentry opportunities.
Operations: perform hands-on instructional plumbing work; manage facility plumbing maintenance including design, installation, daily maintenance, remodeling and repair; plan projects, estimate supplies and costs, prioritize tasks, and coordinate with other trades to optimize resources; complete work orders and incident reports.
Other Duties: may supervise additional inmate crews in the absence of another supervisor; support other trades supervisors as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Active Journeyman or Master Plumber license issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).
Four (4) years of employment experience performing preventive, predictive, and corrective plumbing maintenance in residential and/or commercial settings.
Substitutions: formal apprenticeship or accredited trade school program with competencies equivalent to the required experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis; transcripts are required for substitution.
Required competencies include: strong work ethic, integrity, judgment, plumbing design/installation/maintenance, reading blueprints, effective communication with inmates and staff, supervisory abilities, safety leadership, and the ability to work in confined spaces and in various weather conditions.
Preferred qualifications: experience in commercial, industrial, or correctional settings.
