NOW ELIGIBLE FOR A $3,000 SIGN ON BONUS. To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act. Hires with a start date prior to July 1, 2025 are eligible for a $7,000 Sign On Bonus. All hires with a start date on July 1, 2025, or after are eligible for a $3,000 Sign On Bonus. We recruit for Correctional Food Service Officer I, II, and III levels statewide. Salary Range per Classification Correctional Food Service Officer I: $32,639 - $57,117 Correctional Food Service Officer II: $34,270 - $59,973 Correctional Food Service Officer III: $35,984 - $62,971 Responsibilities
Supervise offenders performing large-scale food production and food service operations at a correctional institution/facility. Oversee the food preparation and clean-up team within the food service department, prioritizing effective verbal and written communication. Maintain all food service equipment and understand menu specifications. Ensure sanitary food handling practices and knowledge of nutritional values for meal planning and preparation. Manage inventory levels of food and supplies, rotate stock, and ensure timely ordering of food products and cleaning supplies. Supervise offenders in assigned food preparation and food service work areas, including cooking, baking, and serving food to the offender population. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Correctional Food Service Officer I: High school diploma or GED and one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operation, or as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Correctional Food Service Officer II: High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operation, or as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Correctional Food Service Officer III: High school diploma or GED and three years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operation, or as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possible trainee progression consideration: If no qualified candidates meet minimum requirements, a trainee may be considered with salary set lower than the classification range, with future increases as required by policy. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission. Work Schedule
This is a full-time position. Employees must be able to work any shift, including rotating, fixed, or split shifts. Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime. This position provides State Benefits. Equal Employment Opportunity
