The Certified Professional Coder will be responsible for accurate preparation and submission of claims to third‑party payers, timely performance of medical billing functions, communication with clients and providers regarding insurance questions, review and revision of denials for resubmission, and completion of daily reports for insurance verification, claims submission, insurance billing and research.

SALARY:

$23.63 to $29.50 per hour DOE

REPORTS TO:

Patient Financial Services Supervisor

LOCATION:

Nespelem Health Clinic, Nespelem, WA

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree

Certificate from a medical billing and coding course of one year or longer (transcript required with application), with coursework in bookkeeping or accounting and computer‑aided applications

At least 2 years of work experience in medical billing involving Medicare, Medicaid and third‑party payers with FQHC, IHS or Tribal programs; certification from a nationally recognized financial association (HFMA, AAHAM, or AAPC) required and must be maintained throughout employment

Valid driver’s license and eligibility for the Tribes’ vehicle insurance throughout employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of medical billing practices and terminology, ICD‑10, CPT, and HCPCS code sets

Understanding of the scope of medical codes used by the Tribe

Proficient computer skills, including office productivity software, revenue‑cycle applications, spreadsheets, and databases

Strong written and verbal communication skills for business correspondence and training staff

Mathematical proficiency for basic calculations and data integrity

Excellent human‑relation skills for effective collaboration and financial transaction handling

Knowledge of current third‑party billing regulations, policies, and procedures, including modifier usage

Ability to multitask, meet strict deadlines, and maintain confidentiality

Detail orientation and effective communication capabilities

Current working knowledge of Tribal reimbursement standards
