We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Scrap Trader to join our team in Long Island, New York. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the buying and selling of steel and nonferrous scrap, developing and maintaining relationships with suppliers and customers, and ensuring optimal market pricing.
Key Responsibilities
Market Research & Analysis: Stay up to date with trends, pricing, supply‑demand conditions, and economic factors in the scrap market.
Procurement: Identify, negotiate, and secure supply contracts with scrap steel suppliers, scrap yards, and steel mills; build relationships with existing and new suppliers; coordinate logistics and transportation.
Sales & Customer Relationship Management: Develop new customer accounts, maintain existing client relationships, negotiate pricing and delivery schedules, monitor client satisfaction, and resolve delivery or quality issues.
Pricing & Negotiation: Analyze market conditions to set competitive pricing, adjust based on fluctuations, and negotiate favorable terms of sales and contracts.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure all transactions comply with company policies and quality standards, and provide regular market reports and sales forecasts to upper management.
Requirements
Proven experience in scrap metal trading or similar fields (steel, nonferrous, recycling).
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Deep understanding of scrap steel markets, trends, and pricing.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Knowledge of logistics and inventory management.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
Ability to build and maintain relationships with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
Bachelor's degree; Supply Chain Management or related field preferred; previous sales or procurement experience a plus.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in an office and outdoor environment.
Travel required to visit scrap yards, suppliers, clients, and conferences.
