Lead Civil/Site Development Engineer

Power & Energy
team in
Houston, TX
and other locations (Overland Park, KS; Oradell, NJ; Mount Laurel, NJ; Atlanta, GA; Seattle, WA; Boise, ID; Hailey, ID). You will be involved in power generation projects and help our clients achieve their objectives while solving challenges.
Responsibilities
Develop site layout, grading, storm water management, vehicular circulation, underground utilities, retaining walls, and wastewater management.
Perform earthwork and erosion control calculations to avoid unnecessary environmental impact and cost.
Gain exposure and experience in a wide range of power plant technologies including biomass, municipal waste, geothermal, hydrogen, fossil fuel, carbon capture, battery energy storage, hydro, and solar.
Engage in surveying, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, electrical, and discipline coordination.
Maintain good working relationships with internal groups that support projects.
Maintain good working relationships with clients, material suppliers, contractors, and others that affect project quality, schedule, and cost.
Conduct hydrology and hydraulic calculations and studies to design stormwater management systems, including detention and infiltration systems to prevent flooding impacts.
Supervise and mentor less experienced engineers and CAD designers.
Participate and lead business development activities for the company and the civil discipline.
Interface with state and local permitting agencies and construction entities for domestic and international projects.
Perform detailed engineering reviews of work submitted by others.
Coordinate regularly with the Project Engineer/Manager to ensure project scope, budget, and quality expectations are met.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to
WSP’s Code of Conduct
and related policies.
Required Qualifications
BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering) degree from an ABET‑accredited university.
7+ years of relevant post‑education experience as a civil engineer.
Experience working in consulting firms.
Professional Engineer License.
Experience in site design for utilities, industrial facilities, municipal infrastructure, storm drainage and stormwater management design, site grading, roadway and utility design, sanitary sewer design and analysis, construction specification development, and development of construction bid packages.
Proficiency with engineering design tools and software, including Autodesk Civil 3D and stormwater design software HydroCAD; effective management of Civil3D CAD designers.
Experience using the Microsoft Office software suite.
Effective self‑leadership, attention to detail, results orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
Efficient communication and ability to work with team members not located in the same office through MS Teams, email, and/or telephone calls.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by
WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Power plant and substation site design experience.
Surveying and retaining wall design experience.
Managerial and leadership skills a plus; desire to become an Area Lead.

Compensation Expected Salary (all locations):
$98,300 – $175,230
per year. WSP reserves the right to adjust the range based on experience, location, and internal equity.
