Role Overview As a Banking Service Professional, the Personal Banker will provide effective support of sales and service activities within the banking office, developing new business by educating existing and potential clients and exemplifying Valley’s quality service standards. The personal banker provides banking solutions by analyzing needs, recommending solutions and selling bank products and services to existing and potential clients. They perform routine banking transactions while supporting the Market Manager in achieving quality service and complying with operational procedures.

Responsibilities

Provide exceptional customer service in accordance with Valley’s mission statement, engaging customers with friendly and professional service.

Know all bank products and services and educate and demonstrate them to customers, including cross‑selling various products and services.

Present a confident and professional demeanor to establish trust and gain knowledge from the customer; analyze needs and recommend appropriate products and services.

Meet with customers to analyze financial needs and maximize sales opportunities, offering all bank products and assists with service needs, opening new accounts (checking, savings, certificates of deposit, IRAs), and discussing or selling loan products while promoting online and mobile banking.

Meet customer expectations and achieve service‑quality standards; participate in the sales‑referral process and coach branch staff.

Perform all required customer transactions using appropriate technology efficiently; maintain and balance a cash box and use teller scanning equipment, cash recycling, and dispensing machines.

Act as vault teller, ensuring branch cash adequacy for daily transactions by ordering and shipping currency and controlling cash distribution to tellers within prescribed limits.

Assist in community events (e.g., Habitat for Humanity) and support CRA initiatives and programs.

Report significant matters, issues, and unusual customer activity to the manager while maintaining personal knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements.

Maintain knowledge and compliance with the bank’s Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures.

Required Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication, including writing correspondence and accurately demonstrating products and services to customers.

Excellent interpersonal customer‑service skills, attentiveness, information retention, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with both customers and employees.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills to uncover and resolve complex customer issues.

Ability to make sound, on‑the‑spot decisions that balance customer satisfaction with bank exposure to loss or fraud.

Ability to interpret diverse instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled form.

Deep understanding of retail banking and strong customer‑service skills, engaging customers in conversations about products and services.

Detail‑oriented, strong organizational skills, and a high degree of accuracy.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Proficient computer skills.

Required Experience

High school diploma or GED and minimum one year of business‑services experience in branch banking and knowledge of branch operations or successful completion of a Valley Retail training program.

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (concentration in accounting, business, finance, economics or a related field) is preferred.

Preferred Experience

Experience with FIS/IBS (Integrated Banking Solutions).
