The Transportation Engineer 3 (Engineering) oversees CTDOT’s Capital Program for the replacement and upgrade of Highway Maintenance Facilities and provides engineering support for the Bureau of Highway Operations. Position Highlights

First Shift – Full Time, 40 hours per week Monday through Friday Location: Newington, CT Hybrid work options available Application Details

Supervise and mentor lower‑level engineers on projects. Design and review highway maintenance facilities, bridges, foundations, and drainage systems. Conduct field inspections and inspections of structural conditions. Prepare detailed geotechnical, hydraulic, and environmental reports. Coordinate with statewide agencies, consultants, and towns on design and construction matters. Provide technical advice on pollution control, storm sewer, and culvert designs. Assist in preparation and review of federal, state, and agency manuals and policies. Act as expert witness and represent CTDOT at public meetings and in legal contexts. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Three (3) years of transportation engineering experience. At least one (1) year of experience at the working level in a professional transportation engineering capacity. PE licensure is an advantage; EIT licensure may replace the degree requirement. Preferred Qualifications

Accredited bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, or Transportation Engineering. Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) license. Experience supervising and developing junior engineers. Experience with highway and bridge design, construction, and federally funded projects. Proficiency with Bluebeam, CTDOT Compass, SharePoint, Project, Office 365, and related engineering software. Special Requirements

Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license required. Incumbents may be required to travel. Working Conditions
