Position Summary The Middle School Theatre Program Producer/Director is responsible for leading and managing the school’s theatre program, including the production and direction of annual performances, coordination of all theatrical activities, and fostering a love of theatre in middle school students (grades 6‑8). This role requires a creative, organized, and enthusiastic individual with a passion for theatre education and a commitment to student development both on and off the stage.

Key Responsibilities

Select age‑appropriate theatrical productions in alignment with the school’s mission and student interests.

Direct one major production per school year (Spring Musical).

Oversee all aspects of production: casting, staging, rehearsals, costumes, sets, lighting, sound, and promotion.

Collaborate with staff, parent volunteers, and outside professionals as needed to execute productions.

Program Management

Develop and maintain a yearly production calendar, including auditions, rehearsals, and performance dates.

Coordinate and manage production budgets, including fundraising, ticket sales, and sponsorships.

Ensure student safety and maintain discipline and respect during all theatre‑related activities.

Oversee technical operations and coordinate with technical staff for lighting, sound, and set design.

Instructional & Student Development

Teach basic to intermediate theatre skills, including acting, voice, movement, improvisation, and stagecraft.

Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where students of all experience levels can participate and grow.

Provide mentorship, encouragement, and feedback to students throughout the rehearsal and performance process.

Encourage student leadership through stage management, crew roles, and peer mentoring.

Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with school administration, faculty, and parent organizations to ensure alignment with school values.

Communicate regularly with parents, students, and school staff about program updates and performance information.

Promote the theatre program within the school community to encourage participation and attendance.

Qualifications Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.

Previous theatre experience preferred.

Experience working with adolescents in an educational or performing arts setting is preferred.

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

Valid Minnesota driver’s license.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS The position requires mobility to work in a theater or school environment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in a school or theater building.

Hours & Compensation 1.0 FTE Stipend range: $700 - $2,000.00 Position specific Benefits information is available
