STIPEND: Virtual Exam School Initiative - Mathematics or Language Arts Teacher (Fall/Winter 2025) at Boston Public Schools. This is a seasonal/temporary, stipended position open to current, eligible BPS employees whose current job status allows participation. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Exam School Initiative (ESI) is a racial equity initiative to expand access to Exam Schools for students historically underrepresented. ESI teachers provide rigorous instruction during seven Saturday sessions and build positive relationships with students and families. Reports to:

Virtual learning dates: Sep 27, 2025; Oct 4, 2025; Oct 18, 2025; Oct 25, 2025; Nov 1, 2025; Nov 15, 2025; Nov 22, 2025 Teacher Orientation: Sep 16, 2025 (virtual, 5:30 pm–7:30 pm) Student Daily Schedule: 9:00 AM – 11:15 AM (Virtual) RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide effective, culturally responsive instruction to advance students in Math and/or ELA standards. Use and enhance ESI curriculum materials; collaborate with colleagues to share best practices. Administer pre- and post-tests (if necessary) and use data to drive instruction. Engage students and families; provide ongoing feedback on student performance and progress. Record accurate daily attendance and perform other tasks as requested. CORE COMPETENCIES

Family Collaboration: engage with families and learn about linguistic/cultural assets to support learning. Assessment Practices: use varied assessments and regularly utilize the Progress Learning platform; Google Classroom for writing and grading; promote student self-assessment. Instructional Practices: contextualize instruction to students’ lives; support active, hands-on, inquiry-based learning; employ scaffolded instruction. Discourse: foster active, equitable, and culturally sustaining discourse and academic conversation. Critical Consciousness: integrate community-relevant issues and diverse perspectives into learning. QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
Active teaching license in relevant content and grade level Bachelor’s or Master’s degree Familiarity with Exam Schools and rigorous academic expectations; content expertise in ELA and/or Math Current authorization to work in the United States (on first day of employment) PREFERRED
Fluency in additional languages (e.g., Spanish, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Somali, Portuguese) valued; ESL license and/or SEI endorsement are plus Experience with Social Emotional Learning and Restorative Practices TERMS
Stipend position. Hourly rate:
$59.39/hr ; total up to 28 hours of teaching time and up to 30 hours of prep/reporting time (all virtual), for an estimated total up to
$1,782 . Payment processed as a stipend at program end.
