Staff Nurse - Intensive Care Unit Float Pool - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Nights JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: The Clinical Nurse for the Mount Sinai nursing float pool provides safe, competent quality care to a designated group of patients on a variety of units, as a Registered Professional Nurse. Responsibilities

Patient Care: Deliver patient care using the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care, apply the nursing process based on theory, research, evidence-based practice, and organizational standards. Assess and evaluate patient care needs; integrate assessment and intervention skills; collaborate with the interdisciplinary team; prioritize all aspects of patient care including teaching, rounding, after-hospital planning, and delegation as appropriate. Educate patients and caregivers about their plan of care, transition of care, health promotion, and disease prevention. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team. Manage assignments within the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing and allocate resources efficiently. Patient Experience

Role model the Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care principles in actions such as Admission Welcome, Bedside shift Report, AM/PM Care, 5 Minute Sit Down, Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, Discharge Wrap Up, and unit collaboration with MDs and RNs. Consider patient values and preferences in all aspects of care. Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients and families. Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care. Initiate service recovery when concerns arise and escalate to the appropriate leadership or Patient Relations as needed. Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening. Conduct Purposeful Hourly Rounding addressing the 4 Ps. Quality and Safety

Provide safe, patient-centered care and identify opportunities for improvement. Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety for the patient population served. Implement process improvement strategies based on institutional policy and evidence-based guidelines. Engage in peer and institutional reviews. Collaborate on quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research. Escalate safety hazards following the chain of command and document nursing practice to support quality initiatives. Operations

Performs charge nurse duties as assigned. Coordinate with leadership to ensure supplies and inventory meet patient care needs. Escalate material or staffing deficits as needed. Document thoroughly in compliance with hospital, regulatory, and standards of care. Facilitate patient throughput on a shift basis. Professional Development

Support an environment of care for clinical colleagues, patients, families, and the healthcare team. Advance clinical competence from novice to expert. Present a professional image and communicate with care, respect, compassion, and empathy. Incorporate ethical principles into decision making. Encourage lifelong learning and innovation. Acquire role- and population-specific knowledge and participate in shared decision making through councils and unit initiatives. Serve as a preceptor and role model for new staff and students. Act as a charge role/throughput facilitator and resource person for unit leadership. Promote research-based practice and professional involvement. Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a BSN preferred; ADN with BSN progression acceptable; RN matriculated in BSN program with expected graduation within the year. Experience: Relevant clinical competence in the assigned area; new graduates should have current knowledge of the nursing process. Licensing/Certification: Licensed registered nurse in New York State; Basic Life Support (BLS); NRP (Labor and Delivery, NICU); ACLS (various units including ED, ICUs); PALS (ED, PACU, ICU, pediatric areas). The Mount Sinai Health System provides salary ranges that comply with applicable laws. The stated salary range for the role is $68,593 per hour (inclusive) with actual pay depending on experience, education, operational need, and additional compensation factors. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation.
