MAINTENANCE/GROUNDS MANAGER

State of Missouri . Our Veterans Home is the place for you if you enjoy a variety of hands‑on work, challenges, and the outdoors. You will oversee a small team providing maintenance, repair, and upgrade of structures, systems, and grounds around the Home. Responsibilities
Supervise and provide oversight of the Maintenance/Grounds Supervisor and 5–7 skilled and semi‑skilled permanent team members in areas for a moderate size and high complexity medical facility engineering plant operation, including HVAC system (closed chilled water technology), steam generated power plant, electrical plant, physical plant, and all engineering plant control operations. This includes inspections of work quality, prioritizing preventive maintenance, handling repair demands, and managing physical plant grounds activities such as landscaping, lawn care, and snow removal. Assist in recruitment, selection and training of new team members. Implement Performance Management for each team member and review according to facility policy. Provide counseling and disciplinary action as needed. Edit time records and process for department team members. Ensure 24/7 daily on‑site or on‑call support for ongoing operations of the facility’s engineering plant and related grounds. Provide oversight and recommendations to the Administrator regarding proposed modifications and new construction; participate in design, planning, bid processes, inspections, and warranty evaluations. Develop and direct the implementation of a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance Program. Prepare long‑range plans (5 and 10 years) to identify assets/equipment, systems, and structural components and forecast future facility requirements including budgeting and resource allocation. Provide recommendations regarding capital equipment purchases to enhance facility plant operations. Prepare and adhere to an annual department budget for maintenance items. Ensure proper supplies and equipment are in inventory, in working order, and maintain records. Develop and direct the facility’s security program including lighting, access control, safe egress, and related activities. Direct scheduling and execution of annual warranty and regulatory tests and inspections for a moderate size, high complexity medical facility. Support the facility’s safety committee functions by serving on the committee and ensuring maintenance duties are completed timely. This includes fire safety training and other disaster trainings as assigned. Collaborate with the Administrator and sister facilities to design and finalize department operating Standards of Practice, goals, and best practices. Position self and equipment under, around, and over structures and objects. Supervise operation of powered equipment (e.g., lawn tractor, snow blower); repair and maintain tools and equipment. Participate in grounds maintenance, landscaping, mowing, trimming, fertilizing, and pest control as appropriate. Lift and move objects, climb ladders, work at heights, and operate forklifts, power tools, and related equipment. Work outdoors in extreme temperatures; respond to internal and external disasters to protect residents, staff, and property. Stand for long periods; use moderately complex electronic data processing equipment and engineering controls software. Serve as a resource for facility staff through in‑service education on maintenance, safety, and security topics. Adhere to infection control procedures as trained. Arrive on time and schedule leave responsibly in line with Commission policies; work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, and overtime as needed. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Must demonstrate the following which may be obtained through four or more years of semi‑skilled work experience in construction, skilled trades, grounds maintenance, or a closely related field, or through completion of four years of post‑secondary education, or some combination thereof: AND Possession of a valid Driver’s License from Missouri or state of residence. Considerable knowledge of facilities management and equipment maintenance. Considerable knowledge of industrial safety practices. Ability to collect data, maintain documentation, and create reports. Operate backhoe, trucks, tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, and various types of power equipment. Perform basic facility maintenance. Use metal and woodworking tools. Read schematics and blueprints. Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in all types of weather. Benefits
