Overview

Transportation Training Officer - CDL role at Connecticut Department of Administrative Services. This position supports the Department’s CDL training program and other vehicle/driver related training programs within the DOT. The Operations Training Unit administers highway maintenance-specific training for new and existing employees. Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must indicate they hold a current and valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tank endorsement in the application. Invitees to interview must produce a copy of their CDL Class A or B with tank endorsement and a valid Medical Examiner's Card (MEC) at the time of interview; failure to do so will disqualify. Position Highlights

Schedule: Monday–Friday, full-time (40 hours/week) Location: Newington, CT The Role

The Transportation Training Officer reports to the Training Program Supervisor and may conduct training virtually, in person, in classrooms, garages, on the road, and at worksites. Responsibilities include providing technical training and hands-on practical education, developing curricula, and delivering training to highway maintenance employees and others seeking to obtain a CDL. Provide and be responsible for technical training and hands-on practical education for employees responsible for highway and bridge maintenance and equipment repair Train in accordance with highway operations and maintenance policies; support CDL and equipment operation training Collaborate with Staff Development & Safety units, subject matter experts, outside agencies, and contractors Support training for new and veteran employees Support the Department’s apprenticeship program for future state employment Assist in developing and delivering designed training courses aligned with the Training Program Applications to this recruitment may be used for future vacancies in this job class Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications – General Experience: Five (5) years of experience in training, transportation, highway maintenance, or construction related work Minimum Qualifications – Special Experience: One (1) year of general experience in operation of complex equipment or skilled tasks Note: For state employees, experience is interpreted at the level of a Transportation Maintainer 3 Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed: Graduation from a vocational/technical school in a maintenance trade may substitute for two years of general experience Preferred Qualifications: Holds a Class A CDL; experience with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with training development, public speaking, and in-house content creation; highway maintenance experience; CDL training administration (FMCSA requirements) Special Requirements: Incumbents may be required to possess/retain licenses, permits, certifications; willing to accept emergency duties as needed; CDL and current medical card may be required Physical Requirements: Ability to perform duties with adequate strength and stamina; medical exam may be required Selection and Application
