Staff Engineer - Finance Data Specialist (Hybrid) at GEICO. The role supports the build out of a Finance Data Warehouse/Lake by partnering with Finance and Technology teams to redesign how Finance data is captured, transformed, and utilized to meet business goals. The Staff Engineer, Finance Data Specialist reports to the Senior Manager of Finance Data & Analytics and develops solutions to build, maintain, and support a Finance Data repository to support FP&A processing and analytics. Responsibilities
Leverage strong functional and technical systems expertise to drive right-solution decisions to support Finance needs. Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the software lifecycle. Participate in design sessions to ensure systems are well designed, efficient, and meet business expectations. Collaborate with FP&A, Controllers, Financial Reporting, Finance QA & Systems, Data Engineering, and Finance Technology leaders to align on goals. Establish a vision and technology roadmap to build out a Finance Data Lake/Warehouse. Understand finance data lake/mart concepts and data processing using ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Informatica, DBT). Design, develop, implement, and maintain data ingestion and transformation solutions. Work with cloud data solutions (Delta Lake, Iceberg, Hudi, Snowflake, Redshift or equivalent). Support the development and implementation of Revenue and Expense analytics. Influence customers and stakeholders to align on long-term goals. Contribute to a strong control and governance framework for SOX and audit reviews. Translate business and functional specifications into technical specifications. Share best practices and improve processes across teams. Qualifications
15+ years of Finance Systems experience with ERP solutions (e.g., Oracle, Workday, SAP or PeopleSoft). 3+ years implementing and supporting FP&A applications (preferred). 3+ years working with or supporting a Finance Data Lake/Warehouse/Mart with Financial Reporting tools. Good understanding of Dimensional Data Modeling. Strong knowledge of data processing/transformation using ETL/ELT tools (Informatica, DBT, etc.). Strong SQL skills; ability to write, debug, and optimize SQL queries and ETL jobs. Experience with Financials via major vendors (e.g., PeopleSoft, Oracle EBS, Oracle Cloud, Workday, SAP). Finance domain experience to translate finance processes into system solutions. Understanding of FP&A budgeting, planning, and forecasting processes. Experience implementing or supporting Revenue or Expense analytics via tools like Power BI or Tableau. Understanding of accounting processes and reporting expectations to partner with Finance teams. Ability to communicate with users across Technology and Finance. Knowledge of project management techniques and best practices. Strong problem-solving abilities; ability to work in a fast-paced environment. SDLC knowledge and ability to work independently or in a team-based environment. Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent education/experience. Salary and Benefits
