Overview

Prosecute criminal cases in district and potentially superior court. Screen incoming cases to identify strengths and weaknesses of case facts. Research and identify precedence in case law; utilize electronic legal research tools. Prepare cases for trial; write and file appropriate motions; organize work and set priorities. Meet critical deadlines; follow up on assignments; and meet with victims of crime. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge:
Federal, state, common, and constitutional law; judicial procedures; rules of evidence; NC General Statutes; ethical and professional standards; knowledge of the NC court system and investigative protocols. Skill:
Interpreting and applying complex criminal laws; interviewing witnesses; researching case law; negotiating plea agreements; organizing work; meeting deadlines; following up with minimal direction. Ability:
Analyze facts and apply the law; conduct legal research; develop and execute litigation strategies; conduct witness examinations; deliver open/closing statements; communicate clearly in writing and verbally; build cooperative working relationships; work independently. Education and Experience
