Update, facilitate, and deliver legal and skills-based training to Attorney General’s Office attorneys who represent DCYF in child welfare cases. Lead the statewide Juvenile Litigation Training Committee and inform and support training for professional staff working on these matters. Advise DCYF regarding legal requirements reflected in case worker training materials and curricula. Coordinate with Division Chief, DCYF lead counsel, CYF division members, HR Training staff, and Managing AAGs across divisions to align training with changing legal requirements. Provide trainings to DCYF case workers when appropriate; handle other DCYF programmatic, client advice, or appellate work as assigned. Address child welfare legal requirements per applicable statutes and case law; cover topics including trial strategy, evidentiary issues, Indian Child Welfare Acts, disclosure and discovery, adoption and guardianship, and related litigations. Qualifications
Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school or completion of the WSBA Rule 6 Law Clerk Program; and be licensed to practice law in Washington State. Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to train peers and staff on child welfare legal requirements and juvenile litigation skills; ability to work independently. Experience advising state child welfare workers and creating training materials, training resources, and written communications such as pleadings and briefs. Familiarity with adult learning/training techniques is preferred though not required. Active admission to the WSBA or pursuing admission; applicants who meet other qualifications and are actively pursuing admission will be considered. Division and Location
The CYF Division is located in the Tumwater Office; this position may be outstationed in another AG’s Office depending on location and experience. The AAG will join a division committed to cooperative, inclusive, and growth-oriented work culture. Compensation and Benefits
