Assistant Professor - Computer Science and Software Engineering (AY 26/27) Cal Poly invites applications for a full‑time, academic year, tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2026. The role is based in the College of Engineering’s Computer Science and Software Engineering Department.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Anticipated range:

$110,000.00

per year –

$123,000.00

per year.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and master’s level courses in computer science and/or software engineering.

Develop and expand curriculum, supporting Cal Poly’s "Learn by Doing" philosophy and hands‑on lab environment.

Conduct high‑quality scholarly research, publishing in peer‑reviewed venues and seeking external funding.

Engage in service activities at all levels of the university, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.

Required Qualifications

Earned Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to develop an externally funded, applied research program that includes undergraduate and graduate students and partnerships with industry or other stakeholders.

Proficiency in written and oral English.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with laboratory‑based instruction or industry practice.

Commitment to inclusive, student‑centered learning and experience supporting diverse student populations.

Familiarity with teaching in areas of departmental need: software engineering, programming languages, operating systems, high‑performance computing, full‑stack mobile and web development, databases, as well as AI, game development, data science, privacy and security.
