Job Summary & Responsibilities
As a Labor & Delivery Nurse at St Mary Medical Center, now part of CommonSpirit Health, you will guide patients through the labor and childbirth process, focusing on the safety of the mother and baby with kindness and compassion. Your role may include triaging patients, performing screening exams on walk‑ins, guiding women through induction and delivery, monitoring dilation and fetal heart rate, coaching mothers during birth, and supporting families with updates and emotional support. You must remain calm during emergencies, handle changing patient status quickly, and foster a supportive environment throughout the entire labor experience.
Specific Responsibilities
Triage walk‑ins to determine if a patient is in labor or a false alarm.
Support pregnant patients in labor, including induction, epidural assistance, general pain management, and fetal monitoring.
Assist and circulate in the operating room for cesarean sections, tubal ligation, cerclage, and emergency procedures.
Educate patients on interventions or procedures – medications (name & purpose), examinations, and labor stages.
Assess newborns and provide initial newborn care.
Communicate with the care management team, including anesthesiologists, physicians, midwives, lactation nurses, charge nurses, the postpartum unit, and families.
Qualifications & Certifications
1‑2 years of Labor & Delivery experience required.
Current California RN license.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required.

Pay Range $54.86 – $68.51 /hour
