Senior Controls Automation Engineer
Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Senior Controls Automation Engineer to work in Waukesha, WI. The expected annual salary range for this role is $83,250.00 – $122,100.00 per year. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
What You’ll Do The Senior Controls/Test Engineer supports plant leadership in achieving business and financial goals by developing and maintaining robust testing and assembly processes. They are responsible for the design, development, fabrication, validation, installation, support, and troubleshooting of production test equipment and programs. The role also involves coaching, mentoring, and serving as a role model for colleagues.
In This Role You Will
Develop and enforce guidelines for test equipment design, specifications, protocols, and data collection, ensuring safety compliance with OSHA and electrical standards.
Support, service, and troubleshoot test equipment and electrical systems, identifying hazards and driving remediation to maintain a zero‑incident culture.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, MESH, suppliers, and customers to ensure operational alignment and product conformity.
Lead root cause analysis and apply critical thinking to drive improvements in cost, quality, and performance; mentor others in problem‑solving.
Oversee capital equipment selection and CAR development for major testing and control initiatives.
Participate in assessments, acting as category lead or champion when required.
Drive cost‑out and continuous improvement initiatives through Lean/Six Sigma tools, Kaizens, and metric‑based performance tracking.
Enhance testing/control systems through technology innovation and waste elimination in factory floor information flow.
Lead cross‑functional projects with defined goals and budgets, aligning stakeholders and managing effective communication plans.
Implement change management strategies (e.g., ADKAR, MOC) to sustain process improvements across manufacturing operations.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Computer/Math/Science from an accredited institution.
Three (3) years of test/controls engineering experience.
Three (3) years of experience with computer programming software such as Visual Basic/Studio, SQL, and other Microsoft applications.
Three (3) years of experience with PLC, HMI programming, and safety systems design.

Preferred Qualifications
Five (5) years of Controls/Test engineering experience.
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification with expertise in structured problem‑solving tools (e.g., 8D, A3, FMEA, control/Pareto charts).
Experience in electrical testing procedures, protocols, and troubleshooting at both component and integrated system levels.
Proficiency in interpreting and applying NFPA 70E and other electrical safety regulations; skilled in reading and troubleshooting schematics and wiring diagrams.
Strong background supporting Engineered‑to‑Order (ETO) manufacturing and resolving electrical design and production issues.
Project management experience using the PROLaunch framework.
Capability to guide installation work and resolve complex issues involving multiple electrical contractors.
Software proficiency in NI LabVIEW, NI TestStand, Rockwell RSLogix (5/500/5000), Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View ME/SE, and VB6.
