Position Title Senior Lead Network Administrator (Information Technology Specialist II) – Department of Transportation, Caltrans

Location 1120 N Street, Sacramento, California (Sacramento County)

Salary $8,625.00 – $11,557.00 per month (minimum salary of classification or alternate range).

Job Overview Under the general direction of an IT Manager, the incumbent serves as a Senior Lead Network Engineer supporting Caltrans Enterprise Network and Traffic Operations Network. The incumbent is based in the Sacramento Headquarters office and provides statewide support and leadership for Caltrans business operations.

Responsibilities

Lead network engineering, network access control, and enterprise networking to support Caltrans business operations.

Collaborate with stakeholders across the state to design, configure, and maintain complex networks, including LAN/WAN, Unified Communications, DNS, NAC, load balancers, switches, routers, and firewalls.

Provide technical leadership for network design, implementation, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.

Ensure compliance with Caltrans and state IT security policies and risk management practices.

Document network architectures, configurations, and operational procedures.

Eligibility and Minimum Requirements

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Information Technology Specialist II exam.

New to state candidates must be on the state examination list or have current eligibility (transfer, permissive reinstatement, voluntary demotion).

Minimum qualifications are specified in the Classification Specification(s).

Relationship Building: Collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and management to align infrastructure goals.

Organizational Awareness: Ensure infrastructure activities support the strategic direction of Caltrans.

Interpersonal Effectiveness: Communicate technical information clearly and provide mentorship to peers.

Thoroughness and Asset Accountability: Maintain meticulous documentation and comply with asset tracking and procurement processes.
