CALTRANS HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE LEADWORKER – Caltrans District 3
Salary $5,119.00 - $6,696.00 per month.
Job Description & Duties Under the supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Leadworker is responsible for overseeing and working with a maintenance crew engaged in maintaining the highways and related facilities. Incumbent must possess a Class B license and may operate specific equipment required for the class. Incumbent may be assigned to perform non‑leadworker duties as part of their normal assignment. To help the Department with scheduling, incumbent may be asked to work alternate work shifts such as 9/80, 4/10 or night work.
Position is located in Monterey and may be on the Monterey Maintenance Crew or the Monterey Guardrail Crew. Translation Services available upon request.
Working Conditions Incumbent can expect to be outside most of the day in all kinds of weather. The work is physically demanding and requires stamina, agility and strength. May be subject to sunburn, poison oak, snake and insect bites, loud noise, dust, chemicals and exposure to vehicular traffic. Potential hazards include the use of hazardous chemicals, operating heavy equipment and working in the roadway. Work may involve rotating or irregular shifts, including nights and emergency situations caused by storms and floods.
Special Requirements
Valid California drivers license (CDL). Must provide CDL number, class, expiration date, endorsements and restrictions.
Drug screening must be passed prior to being hired.
Valid unrestricted Class B commercial driver’s license with Tank Vehicle (N) endorsement.
Eligibility Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Highway Maintenance Leadworker Exam. Candidates without current eligibility must be on the state examination list. To apply for the exam, please search by typing in the classification title.
