Primary Responsibilities: The Youth and Young Adult Director provides leadership and support for parishes to build a culture of evangelization – especially with youth and young adults. This position will be responsible for the formation of leaders serving in parish youth and young adult ministry as all parishes strive to accompany young people along their journey of faith. This position will also be a resource to the Curia and to parishes on the ongoing development of resources, effective models, and best practices for the evangelization of young people across our diocese. In close collaboration with the Youth Evangelization Coordinator, this position will work to identify the challenges facing young people today and implement evangelization strategies that bring them into relationship with Jesus and His Church. Minimum Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required: Must be a practicing Catholic, a member in good standing with a Diocesan Catholic parish, living consistent with his/her vocation and possessing a strong faith commitment dedicated to the Gospel values and a life of prayer and service. Bachelor’s degree in religious studies or similar focus required. 5+ years of experience in a catechetical or evangelization position at the parish or diocesan level. Understanding of evangelization processes as they pertain to youth, young adults and adults. Excellent familiarity with applicable Church documents concerning evangelization including but not limited to Evangelii Nuntiandi, Evangelii Gaudium, Go and Make Disciples, Disciples Called to Witness, and Living as Missionary Disciples. Valid Driver’s License and eligibility for diocesan fleet automobile insurance. Strong planning, organizing and communication skills. Excellent communication and writing skills. Technical and social media capability including Facebook, Twitter, Flocknote etc. Familiarity and experience with youth and adult learning styles. Strong knowledge of the process of evangelization. Ability to see a large perspective and envision a variety of methods for evangelization. Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills; ability to influence others, overcome obstacles and challenges. Demonstrates behaviors and interactions consistent with diocesan vision, mission, culture and values. Proven ability to identify and initiate evangelization and development strategies for individuals and teams. Ability to guide others toward professional growth and development. Demonstrated ability to identify developmental needs for evangelization and leadership development. Ability to recognize and cultivate missionary zeal. Ability to work with all levels of employees in a group and one-on-one. Ability to create catalysts for employee motivation to reach souls for Jesus Christ. Ability to facilitate processes that foster conversion and discipleship. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Preferred: Master’s degree in theology or related area.
