Base pay range $73,939.00/yr - $115,213.00/yr
Summary This vacancy will remain open until filled. The first cut-off date is 11/17/2025. Additional applications will be referred as needed. This position is located in the Audiology Service at the Lubbock Community Based Outpatient Clinic as part of the Amarillo VA Health Care System. The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center including all clinical and patient care areas involved with the service. Incumbent is a staff audiologist.
Qualifications
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
Education
1) Doctor of Audiology (AuD) from an audiology program recognized by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association (ASHA)
2) Other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the USDE
Foreign Education: To be creditable, education completed outside the U.S. must have been submitted to a private organization specializing in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials and deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. programs.
Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth or the District of Columbia. Non‑licensed audiologists may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate audiologist under 38 U.S.C. § 7405(c)(2) for up to two years, with supervision of fully licensed audiologists.
Grandfathering Provision: Employees previously qualified under earlier standards are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held.
Demonstrated KSAs: Knowledge of principles and techniques in assessment and treatment of auditory and balance disorders; ability to perform functions associated with contemporary audiology scope of practice; ability to interact with patients, families, and other health care professionals.
Experience: One year of professional experience comparable to the next lower grade level and additional KSAs as described; preferred experience in tinnitus management, balance disorder evaluation, auditory processing disorder evaluation, medico‑legal evaluations, teleaudiology, and supervision of students.
Preferred: At least 2 years of employment as a professional audiologist engaged in practice; carry current ASHA certification.

Duties
Conduct a full range of audiological evaluations to determine the type and degree of hearing loss, predict and measure the effectiveness of amplification, and determine need for rehabilitation and counseling for veterans and families.
Conduct and interpret behavioral, electroacoustic, and electrophysiological methods to assess hearing, tinnitus, balance, and neural system function.
Plan, coordinate, and manage all clinical and administrative aspects of contemporary audiology practice.
Perform direct patient care, including selection and fitting of hearing aids, hearing protection, and aural rehabilitation; program digital hearing aids and assistive devices.
Administer diagnostic tests, evaluate hearing loss in patients unable to provide consistent reactions, and monitor therapeutic outcomes.
Plan and implement auditory rehabilitation and tinnitus programs; develop patient‑centered treatment plans.
Complete all documentation per local and national policies; maintain patient records and data.
Participate in staff and interdisciplinary meetings; attend in‑service trainings.
Maintain clinical instrument proficiency, calibration, and current knowledge through continuing education.
Provide patient and family education, informed consent, and maintain HIPAA compliance.
Perform ancillary assignments as needed and maintain supplies and equipment.
Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 4:30 PM. No telework or virtual option.
