Overview
As the Director of Aviation Safety, this individual is responsible for the management of the aviation safety program to ensure consistent, continuous improvement of key safety performance indicators. Maintain safety datasets in compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., FAA, AABI, OSHA); develop data-driven recommendations for improvements to safety across the School of Aviation and Transportation Technology; provide regular analytical dashboard reports on historical performance, current status, and predicted performance projections; work with faculty, staff, and students to obtain raw data; collaborate with external stakeholders to obtain benchmark data and industry best practices; conduct event investigations; manage corrective action plans arising from data and/or investigation reports; manage the program budget; stay current in technical, operational, and regulatory knowledge related to the responsibilities; develop and manage stakeholder communication; leverage undergraduate and graduate student skillsets; chair the safety committee; and prepare formal reports and presentations.
Responsibilities
Maintain safety datasets in compliance with applicable regulatory standards (e.g., FAA, AABI, OSHA).
Develop data-driven recommendations for improvements to safety across the School of Aviation and Transportation Technology.
Provide regular analytical dashboard reports on historical performance, current status, and projected performance.
Work with faculty, staff, and students to obtain raw data; work with external stakeholders to obtain benchmark data and industry best practices.
Conduct event investigations; manage corrective action plans arising from data and/or investigation reports.
Manage program budget; stay current in technical, operational, and regulatory knowledge related to the assigned responsibilities.
Develop and manage stakeholder communication; leverage the skillsets of undergraduate and graduate students; chair the safety committee; prepare formal reports and presentations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Aviation studies.
Minimum 4-5 years of experience with SMS, data analysis tools and data collection.
Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to handle frequent interruptions, balance multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.
Advanced computer and related software skills to Microsoft Office Suite, etc.
Ability to collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels within and external to the university to support department needs.
Ability to interpret policies and procedures to proactively resolve issues or improve processes.
Ability to identify problems and implement or recommend solutions.
Drafting, proofreading, and editing skills.
