School Bus Monitor – 9‑hour or 11‑hour routes depending on assignment. Works for the transportation department of the state school district.
Job Summary The School Bus Monitor is responsible for ensuring students board and exit the bus safely, maintaining order, and responding to emergencies. The role includes vehicle inspections, assisting students with disabilities, and supporting classroom transitions.
Essential Functions
Respond promptly and courteously to all internal and external customers.
Direct students while boarding and exiting the school bus.
Assist disabled children or those with psychological, emotional, or behavioral issues with boarding and exiting the bus.
Operate lifts for wheelchairs and secure passengers using seatbelts or wheelchair tie‑down straps.
Maintain appropriate student behavior on the bus.
Accompany students to classrooms or facilities when required.
Interact constructively with students and parents.
Assist with cleaning the bus interior, including picking up waste, wiping windows, and vacuuming.
Direct student evacuation during safety drills and emergency situations.
Follow all policies, regulations, and safety rules.
Perform related duties and assignments in a safe and prudent manner.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience working with students or children a plus.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
Ability to actively listen, assess situations, and take appropriate action.
Capacity to work with students of all ages and abilities.
Must pass a criminal background check and obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card with an IVP number from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Physical capacity to lift up to 50 pounds, push/pull up to 125 pounds, and work in temperatures up to 100 °F or below 32 °F.
Compensation Hourly: $14.70 per hour (minimum and maximum salary indicated as $14.70).
Employment Type Full‑time, at‑will. Hours vary by route and may include split shifts.
