Warehouse Director – Job Overview Directs and manages all warehouse operations for a high-volume cheese manufacturing facility. Responsible for ensuring efficient warehouse operations, food safety compliance, inventory accuracy, and team performance while managing budgets and supporting production requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Warehouse Operations Management

Direct daily operations of receiving, storage, inventory management, picking, packing, and shipping

Oversee material handling for raw ingredients, packaging materials, and finished cheese products (2M+ lbs/week)

Manage temperature-controlled storage areas including coolers (34-40°F) and freezers (0°F and below)

Ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment to meet customer delivery requirements

Optimize warehouse layout, racking systems, and material flow for maximum efficiency

Coordinate inbound/outbound logistics and carrier relationships

Manage warehouse equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, RF scanners, and material handling systems

Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance

Maintain compliance with FDA, USDA, HACCP, GMP, and SQF requirements

Implement and enforce food safety protocols for dairy product handling and storage

Ensure proper temperature monitoring and cold chain management

Coordinate with Quality Assurance on lot traceability, product holds, and recalls

Prepare for and manage third-party audits and regulatory inspections

Maintain documentation and records per regulatory requirements

Inventory Management

Maintain inventory accuracy of 99% or higher through cycle counting programs

Implement FIFO (First In, First Out) rotation procedures

Monitor inventory levels and work with Planning/Procurement on replenishment

Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies

Manage WMS (Warehouse Management System) and ERP system transactions

Conduct periodic physical inventories

Team Leadership & Supervision

Supervise warehouse management team (supervisors, leads, coordinators)

Recruit, hire, train, and develop warehouse personnel

Conduct performance evaluations and manage disciplinary actions

Schedule workforce to support 24/7 operations across multiple shifts

Develop training programs for equipment operation, food safety, and warehouse procedures

Foster teamwork and maintain positive employee relations

Safety Management

Ensure OSHA compliance and maintain safe working environment

Conduct safety training and enforce safety policies and procedures

Investigate accidents/incidents and implement corrective actions

Manage forklift certification and equipment safety programs

Lead safety audits and inspections

Budget & Financial Management

Develop and manage annual warehouse operating budget

Control labor costs, overtime, and operational expenses

Monitor and report on key financial metrics

Identify cost reduction opportunities

Approve warehouse-related capital expenditures and maintenance requests

Continuous Improvement

Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency

Lead Lean/Six Sigma initiatives in warehouse operations

Analyze operational data and KPIs to drive performance improvements

Implement automation and technology solutions where appropriate

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct supervision of 3-5 Warehouse Supervisors/Leads

Indirect supervision of 25-50 warehouse associates across multiple shifts

Responsible for hiring, training, performance management, and termination decisions

Physical Demands

Stand and walk for extended periods

Work in cold environments (coolers 34-40°F, freezers below 0°F)

Climb stairs and ladders

Lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally

Bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions

Work Environment

Warehouse and cold storage environment

Exposure to extreme cold temperatures

Moderate to high noise levels

Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts

Required to wear PPE (safety shoes, hairnet, safety glasses, cold weather gear)

May require extended hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays

On-call availability for operational emergencies
