As part of our Water Business Group, you’ll help shape how communities manage water for generations to come. Your work will directly support public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resilience through delivering safe drinking water, treating wastewater responsibly, developing sustainable water supplies, and protecting lives and property through flood control.
The role of the
Regional Business Development Director
is focused on driving net fee booked metrics to grow HDR’s market share across the nine states in the Southeast Region. You will build strong relationships with HDR’s most unique clients in the water planning and design industry, leveraging our technical talent to solve complex challenges.
Primary Role & Responsibilities
Coordinate with the Director of Business Development to identify, monitor, and support attainment of the regional net fee booked plan.
Assist and collaborate with Water leadership in defining and engaging strategy for clients within the region.
Lead Major Campaigns in the $5‑to‑$20 M range, driving the identification, development, and qualification of potential opportunities.
Engage Market Sector/Area Client Development staff in the execution of key market sector initiatives identified during strategic planning and annual alignment meetings.
Coordinate the alignment of internal resources to client needs and the achievement of the Path to Goal.
Secondary Responsibilities
Monitor and communicate progress toward net fee book booking goals; adjust projections and plan as needed.
Assist in the development of the annual strategic planning effort.
Assist in monitoring operational metrics for the region.
Assist in prioritizing strategic hires and recruiting candidates.
Position may be located in any established HDR office in the defined Southeast Region.
Preferred Qualifications
Local candidates are preferred.
Experience developing and supporting implementation of growth strategies.
Proven skillset in developing and managing marketing and business development teams across multiple geographic areas within the Southeast Region.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 15 years relevant industry experience.
Self‑starter with a history of completing projects with limited oversight.
Deep knowledge of the A/E/C industry’s standard approach to procurement of professional services.
Ability to motivate and inspire others.
Ability to build a network of clients and industry partners.
Experience in sales and developing effective win strategies.
Strong financial acumen and negotiation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Willingness to travel and engage with others in person.
Demonstrated experience growing programs in new or highly competitive markets.
Experience winning high‑value contracts in the A/E/C industry.
Experience writing compelling content based on information from technical staff.
