Southeast Regional Business Development Director
HDR is hiring a seasoned Business Development Director to lead market growth and client development across the Southeast Region. The role focuses on building and executing the Water Business Group’s strategic plans, driving regional net fee bookings, and fostering strong client relationships across four market sectors.
About the Role As Regional Business Development Director, you will be supported by 1,500 technical professionals, collaborate with East Region Water Business Group leadership, and head initiatives that impact the water planning and design industry. Your work will directly contribute to public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Path to Goal
– Coordinate with the Director of Business Development to identify, monitor, and support attainment of the Regional net fee booked plan.
Strategic Client Development
– Assist and collaborate with Water leadership to define engagement strategies for regional clients.
Major Campaign Leadership
– Lead Major Campaigns in the $5–$20 M range, driving the identification, development, and qualification of opportunities.
Strategic Initiative Development
– Engage Market Sector/Area staff in executing key market sector initiatives identified during strategic planning.
Resource Alignment
– Coordinate internal resources to client needs and achieve “Path to Goal.”
NFB & Marketing Cost Tracking
– Monitor progress toward net fee booking goals and adjust projections as needed.
Other Initiatives
– Assist with annual strategic planning, operational metrics monitoring, staffing prioritization, and recruiting.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 15 years of relevant industry experience.
Self‑starter who completes projects with limited oversight.
Deep knowledge of A/E/C procurement practices.
Ability to motivate, inspire, and build client and partner networks.
Sales and win‑strategy development experience.
Strong financial acumen and negotiation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Willingness to travel and engage in person.
Experience growing programs in new or highly competitive markets.
Track record of winning high‑value A/E/C contracts.
Proven ability to write compelling technical content.
Preferred Qualifications
Local candidates preferred.
Experience developing and supporting growth strategies.
Ability to manage a marketing and business development team across five geographic areas.
Location Primary: Atlanta, Georgia. The position can be located in any HDR office within the Southeast Region (North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia/Alabama, Kentucky/Tennessee, Florida/Puerto Rico).
